Harry Haywood was born #OTD in 1898. His 1948 book, “Negro Liberation,” was the first major study of the condition of Black folks written by a Black Marxist. Within the Communist Party USA, and throughout his life, he argued that Black folks in the South made up an oppressed nation, with the right to self-determination up to and including secession.
