February Album Writing Month. The goal is to write (and, ideally, record) 14 brand-new songs in 28 days. It was just under the wire, but I made it, uploading my 14th song at 11:30pm last night.

The songs will remain on the FAWM website through March for listening, and I have them uploaded to my Google Drive for indefinite access.

Here's my sevenths song for this year's #FebruaryAlbumWritingMonth. I threw it together very quickly, barely finishing it on time for an open mic I was going to.

I record audio directly from the sound board at my favorite open mic, so I was hoping to play the fresh song and replace my uploaded demo with the board recording. But unfortunately, I whiffed it pretty bad, so you're stuck with the version I recorded in one take at home.

For my sixth #FebruaryAlbumWritingMonth demo, I once again left my comfort zone, this time to make a synthpop/dance/EDM jam. I started playing with some virtual instruments in my DAW and no plan. About 24 hours later, I ended up with "Hair of the Dog," easily the most polished song I've published this month so far.

I went back to more of a "comfort zone" for my fifth #FebruaryAlbumWritingMonth demo of 2023. A bit of acoustic folk-rock with a 6/8 time feel and a Hammond B3 organ solo. Here's "Scapegrace" - enjoy!

Happy February! As of yesterday I have a new novel well under way and four stories out on submission (for the first time in years). So, I feel pretty okay about replacing my writing head with my music head and jumping into #FAWM for the next 28 days.

Ach, who am I kidding, I'm going to be attempting both, amn't I?
