ForgeFriends (aka FedeProxy) is a federated free open git for software development, using the Fediverse's ActivityPub protocol. You can follow the project at:
The project website is at https://forgefriends.org and there's more details about how it works at https://forgefriends.org/blog/2021/11/22/what-is-forgefriends

@humanetech @schmittlauch @fedeproxy #Fedeproxy could also mean "Federated Development Proxy" which is more descriptive but also impossible to guess for someone just reading the name... I think forgefriends is a great name I'm 100% favorable to changing the name of the project. 😍
Once the poll expires I'll propose that name change as a followup to the conversation you started on the forum. If there is consensus after a few weeks, it will happen. 🎉

People from @fedeproxy seem to be working on associated tools (including the Forgefed commit type):
Aral's analogy of a bridge between the "where-do-I-click" billions of muggles and the FOSS community, for people to walk across, is very useful. I still have a github account and use my icon+profile to state why the 60M (not 10^9s) should leave github.
Declarations of purity are fine, but concrete work (or cash) contributions to https://fedeproxy.eu and in creating new community git repository servers will help make "our island" a more effective alternative.
Some pointers for long-term sustainability:
* Elinor Ostrom, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elinor_Ostrom
** the first seven of the eight "design principles" seem to be in place - primary resource = developers' and users' time investment; secondary resources = physical servers + internet; number 8 sounds like #Fedeproxy

There are now enough people for the interview analysis and the #fedeproxy community should be proud to have a #diversity of participants for this first IRL meeting.
Thanks to everyone for the recommendations and efforts!

#fedeproxy is one person short for the #UserResearch interview analysis session on May 26th, 2021
If you belong to an under represented #minority in tech, please consider joining. This is an IRL event (yes, that's still a thing 😜 ) in Paris, France.
Boost appreciated

#diversity is a core value of the #fedeproxy project and, as a member of the community, I take the #codeofconduct very seriously.
It is the first step a project can make to declare that all under represented groups are welcome. And it is specially important when they are still in their bootstrap phase.

@humanetech
This #Fedeproxy is something we may need to look into! Anything that makes life easier for adhoc development is good.
🌟 Feel free to follow @fedeproxy to keep in touch with the #fedeproxy forge federation project.
During today's meeting, there was a consensus on creating a mastodon account dedicated to #fedeproxy It is exclusively used to boost and never toots. The #fedeproxy community is horizontal and does not have, by definition, a spokesperson.
First #fedeproxy monthly meeting today, great discussions on #forge federation, including #UserResearch interviews, #diversity, #funding, technical infrastructure & #activitypub :🐙

@mcsinyx Great 👍 I'd be happy to guide you so you don't waste time wandering around. Are you attracted to a particular aspect of #fedeproxy? Do you enjoy writing code? Or rather brainstorming ideas? Or connecting people togehter? Or ...
@mcsinyx there is much to do, it really depends on your skills.
#fedeproxy is not an organization, it is a #horizontal community of individuals ( see https://fedeproxy.eu/blog/2021/01/10/manifesto/ for details). Each person involved is either participating on a volunteer basis or finds ways to get funding for their work.
For instance, I applied for funding back in January and a grant will pay me a salary (1,500€ net per month) to work on fedeproxy for the next 9 months.
The #fedeproxy #forge federation project needs #diversity, from the start. Do you want to join?
Boost appreciated.

Really interesting : " https://fedeproxy.eu/ is an online service to federate #forges. The software projects hosted on one forge are synchronized in real time with their counterparts on other forges, via the W3C #ActivityPub protocol.
