Only been on here since 2022 (Well, technically 2018, but I didn't use it much). Honestly, there *are* some things I wish were different, but for the most part, #Fedi is what you make of it.

If some posts are bumming you out, stop following those users, or turn off their boosts (if that's an option for you)

I get the sense there's a series of interlocking issues that stymie rapid Mastodon adoption among folks used to Twitter. These aren't ALL bad. Some are just not what people are used to:

* Not understanding the difference between platform, app, and instance.

* Not knowing which instance to pick.

Yeah, that is a problem with apps not relying on GSF or MicroG for notifications. They'll just keep polling.

There are times where I've had to install the Google Play version instead, just to get reliable and power-efficient notifications. Telegram was a great example of this, when I was still on that platform.

Alternately, you can just disable notifications on those apps. I'm enough of a dopamine junkie on #fedi as it is. XD

Trying to process how to handle content warnings on here. I thought it was mainly upsetting or shocking material, or food, but perhaps not even food based on a poll that’s running at the moment?

And I’m now reluctant to open anything with a content warning as my impression is that they are likely to be porn, though not necessarily marked clearly as such! It’s all very confusing

I didn't know that. @jwz has some articles on why locking in X11 is fundamentally broken (or at least mostly so). I'm not sure that it's much better in Wayland.

My conclusion from my reading (and conversing with JWZ on #fedi) was that the kernel itself needs to provide an iron-clad locking mechanism.

I guess what I was referring to was "content creators" (seriously hate that term) that are on X *and* Mastodon, and Youtube as well, but not on #PeerTube as well. Because there are actually a *lot* of those.

They have the awareness to know that #Fedi has a better alternative to corporate social media, but they haven't branched out into PeerTube yet.

I try to encourage them to do so, but haven't met with much success.
