I'm not sure that would be wise for smaller orgs / businesses that aren't as tech-savvy, but for larger ones it's probably the easiest way to achieve verification.

If I'm not mistaken, if they host their own instance, content moderation including interinstance #fediban becomes their responsibility, and I'm not sure dealing with that moderation is fair for smaller orgs / businesses to have to deal with.

Yeah, one of my favorite people in the world (though we don't talk much anymore ;-;) uses a possible slur to describe herself.

As c0debabe says, people NEED TO VERIFY what they see. Otherwise it is exactly as you say slightlyflightyone, GOOD and HEALTHY instances may get blocked for stupid/inaccurate reasons.
