The previous @fediforum unconference in March resulted in new connections, refined ideas, and more collaboration among fediverse users, operators, and developers.
I am looking forward to the next event on September 20β21. I hope to get feedback on my progress building Open Payments and Web Monetization support into the social Web.

@silverpill hah, my friend, I follow these hashtags so that I donβt miss these types of announcements!
At the very least use the rust one. If youβd like to make the AP tag more specific you could start using #fedidev which Iβve seen Kitsune use as well.
I prey to all of the gods that ever were or ever will be that the Mastodon developers will finally exclude the highly useful content warnings and hashtags that make Mastodon what it is from the character count of the post.
I mean come on. We already do it with image descriptions, and I'm not suggesting we don't put some kind of limit on number of hashtags or CW length, but this is just obtuse when we're encouraged to use these features, then punished for doing so.

Would FireFish devs, or anyone really, like to see this 'peach' colouration added to the fediverse icon repo?
https://git.disroot.org/fediOrigami/fediOrigami
We ask because it is based directly on the colours used by the #fireFish team.

I've been thinking about the "federation is like e-mail" metaphor, when explaining the fediverse to non-techs, and while this comparison is technically precise, I was wondering if it's closer to UX to say "federation is like podcast" (ie. like RSS).
I have no in-depth knowledge of podcasts, but I think a lot of people will be familiar with either subscribing through a podcast client (copy/paste URL in Overcast, Rhythmbox, etc.) or going to a separate server with "federated" content (listen on spotify, Apple Podcasts, etc.).
The copy/paste problem in the fediverse is just like with podcast clients. Yet I don't think listeners are surprised to go to a podcast's website and see several buttons that does the same thing (in fediverse terms: "Follow on Mastodon", "Follow on Calckey", "Subscribe through handle").
So could this metaphor and an imitation of this convention actually help to articulate the plurality of apps in the fediverse, rather than just leaving them with a handle?

Hey #Fediverse,
I have an idea for an #Activitypub implementation that I believe can give users much more control over their content and also more privacy.
Do you know anyone who has enough experience with AP to discuss and review whether it's viable or not? I'm pretty excited about it actually.
Thank you <3 :vlpn_happy_heart:

"Lemmy 0.18.0 no longer federates outbound with non-Lemmy instances"

if any fedi devs want to look into this, seems like an important bug to get figured out asap #fediverse #fedidev #mastodev
@shoq when it comes to groups, there are two parallel implementations in @nodebb:
1. "user groups" which β true to name β is a group of users. They can be mentioned in posts and will be notified thusly.
2. Group chats, which function almost exactly like "mentioned-only" visibility in #mastodon. Users are added to the group and messages exchanged only show up to the users in said group.
Is there a third use case you'd like to see, or is it covered in the above?

Good news! I made my first #ActivityPub follow request!
Bad news, it was to http://127.0.0.1 π
#activitypub #fedidev #nodebbactivitypub
I've been musing passively about how I can develop locally while still making #ActivityPub requests in order to test in production, and was pretty close to just deploying my code on a test subdomain (and then making the call to my #Mastodon server β crag.social), but then realized I could just stand up two #NodeBB instances on my machine and have them gab to each other instead π€

@multiverseofbadness Unimpenetrable wall of http signature crits you for 100
I have no idea if I did it right, or whether it even verifies, so it's time to build `verify()` and check!
It would be very helpful indeed if core fediverse modules (e.g. SSO) could be more language agnostic by using IPC..
What is a Fediverse Galaxy?
As more and more instances are providing multiple services under the same management, we need a term to talk about this type of arrangement. A Fediverse Galaxy is a collection of federated software that is provided by the same admin or collective.

@multiverseofbadness if I just get an hour to myself I'll crank it out. #famouslastwords ... also #phrasing
I am hoping that a robust test suite will capture it all... what edge cases did you run into?
Also when did I say I was "a couple weeks out" from my first follow? Four weeks ago? I must've given the estimate in Dad Time. #fathersday
