If you haven't seen Ted Lasso, then imagine you're the kind of person your dog wishes you could be.
If you don't have a #dog, just don't be that misbehaving #cat.
If you don't have a mental picture of a misbehaving cat, just do your thing, you'll be a king -- or a queen, or something.

Seen a lot of 'just move instance' advice given to (queer) people who want to stay federated with the #BBC. I thought that was 'bad form' round here. In other contexts that is repudiated as a marker of privilege.

Of course, I doubt any individual thinks both, don't tell someone 'just move' and user x should be told to move. What it shows is that it is not always easy to identify oppressive behaviour. It is not clear cut in all cases.

Unfortunately, that means we need to find ways to think it through together. That involves talking. Even then we won't find agreement and all of us are going to get it wrong much of the time. We will need to acknowledge that we might be wrong about some of the things that we label as oppressive.

Looks like #Mastodon is doing the speedrun toward nutritional supplements, survivalist kits, and random nudes. Wasn't an issue a couple weeks ago. Wonder what changed? 🤔

#Fediverse etiquette (#fediquette?) question: If someone makes a followers-only post, what should the privacy setting be for a reply? y default it's followers-only, but my understanding is that then the reply would only be visible to *my* followers, with only people who follow us both being able to follow the whole conversation. I usually just reply as a DM, but is there a better way to go?

Seeing another uptick in accounts that only talk about news/politics all day so wanted to drop another gentle reminder to please use content warnings for certain topics that could be triggering to folks: mostly, politics/current events, nudity, violence/descriptions of violence, that sort of thing. #fediquette

What's the #fediquette (#fediverse #netiquette) concerning boosting your own toots CROSS-SERVER? Say I have a backup account on server X but normally use server Y for posting. Is it acceptable to regularly boost the content from Y using the server X account, or is it frowned upon?

I understand the desire to block Twitter, but the Web was built on connectivity. Blocking posts linking to #Twitter just means you don't see it. Dunno if it actually keeps money out of #Elon's pocket. Blocking or muting *users* is frustrating to the rest of us.

Thought experiment: say the #fediverse grew to 10x Twitter's size. Then John #Mastodon says "NO MORE TWITTER LINKS OR ☠️ ⚰️," & no one can see my mom's dog or your plea for $. Would you think that a good thing? #fediquette

Pretty strange that I feel the need to, um, bowdlerize birdsite links. Guess that means I feel it's strange to hate Twitter so much that one here would feel the need to block posts linking to it. It's just another damn web site -- and a social media one at that. But it's like deciding you hate the USPS or telephones. You can hate them if you want, but I wonder what you're actually doing. #fediquette question, when I reply to a boost, my client* by default includes an @ for the account that boosted the OP to my timeline. I leave it in most of the time. Is this common practice? Is this good practice??

Question about CW and fediverse etiquette. Should I CW politics? (For me politics is an intrinsic part of human experience.) Personally I love to bump into the unexpected, and scrolling past long strings of CW headers is a bit discouraging to me. That's why I set CWs to automatically open. But I don't want to cause any thoughtless distress to others!
