@TG_Esq my problem was , no one else was using that hashtag on my instance so nothing comes up when I search for it. Now that I used it, I can follow it. I also used the web address and found more mastodon.world/tags/eaglemoss. I guess you can put any instance in there but you can't follow the hashtag on an instance other than your own instance. #feditps #hashtags #follows

if you click on a link in a toot to a toot on a different instance and you can see the post but can't interact with it (because it's taken you to a different instance that you don't have an account on), just paste the whole url into the search box on your own instance, mastodon will rewrite the url allowing you to interact normally
