Today I learned that "hide boosts" does not work retroactively. This is seemingly not a #bug - it's a #feature.

Bit confusing/annoying though. Especially as "show boosts" seems to be turned on by default when you follow someone.

@pluralistic has summed up a lot of my feelings on the current state of social media. I'd rather spend my time building something great on an open platform than go around to what is temporarily better (but like doomed to follow the same path as previous walled gardens).

Plus, isn't the benefit of many of these new #fedivere platforms that we aren't forced to use one specific app? I'd honestly probably pay a few bucks a month for one that let's me at the very least read/follow people on #Mastodon, #Bluesky and #Post. Maintaining numerous accounts in numerous platforms isn't sustainable for people who don't want social media to rake up a ton of time. But no platform is big enough, fleshed out enough yet to warrant going all in on.

As another wave of asocial media refugees hits mastodon, make sure to keep the fediverse intact and choose to create an account on smaller servers. This will ensure mastodon stays social. @leigh correct. The point being that as free and independent moderation is an integral aspect of the #fedivere then the core strategy is to minimize any potential disruption by keeping it localized to small instances rather than having large groups disrupted.

I propose #openweb is a good way of expressing a less "tribal" view than #fedivere from both a tech and social view. It's #nothingnew as well which is always a breath of fresh air. Can use both, but we need to start to use the generic term more to be meaningful change and challenge to the #mainstreaming mess.

Boost if you think this needs to happen please.

I know that a lot of people are here to escape #twitter, but are there any tools to automate finding people on the bird site that we follow on the #fedivere and #mastodon? I'm trying to listen to more people about their experiences, their hopes, and dreams, and yes their fears, and nightmares as well. Part of what I am hearing is that some are staying on Twitter or possibly going somewhere else, and I'd like to follow.
