Tweetbot and Twitterific were great, but 3rd party Twitter apps were diamond in the rough kind of apps. Mastodon though, the 1st party app is great, Ivory, Wooly,IceCubes,Mona these are great apps and I’m regularly impressed and often trying to decide which one I want to use. #fediverese

I think the world’s fascination with #cats is getting on the fringe of unhealthy. 5 of the top hashtags on Feditrends are about cats. 🤦‍♂️

@jik If you don’t want to support #NewYorkTimes in any way but still want to support journalism as a way to both be informed and ensure there is a spotlight on the powerful, what alternative do you recommend? #WashingtonPost also has lazy/bad takes sometimes, #LATimes doesn’t go as deep into national politics, my hometown newspaper is kinda focused on clickbait takes, and let’s face it the #fediverese is an easy place launch unverified crap.

So, a question for old-school #Mastodon #fediverese users.

How has the recent influx of users impacted your experience here?

I've known about the #fediverese, #Mastodon and #Peertube for years, but always resisted to make accounts because after my experience with ideti.ca, Sone and Jomsocial, I concluded that there was no point in self-hosted or distributed social networks without mainstream adoption. With Twitter's crisis, I finally decided to try Fediverse microblogging (Mastodon, #Pleroma, etc), and I'm amazed by 1.- how big the fediverse is, and 2.- how much software has been built with ActivityPub.
