Another thing that would be useful is local-only posting of polls (at least for admins and mods), @erikkemp brought up.
I agree! #localOnlyPosts are already available in Mastodon forks such as #GlitchSoc and #Hometown, but so far not in mainline Mastodon. Why? A feature request for this has been open since 2017: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/861

I just attended a very inspiring #FnF23 session convened by @erikkemp on the topic of Fediverse governance. People from many countries, backgrounds and groups were present.
In my opinion, it's too early for creating governing bodies, and I'm not sure we will ever need them. What I find useful is covenants that instances can sign. E.g. digitalcourage.social signed the well-known Mastodon covenant <https://joinmastodon.org/covenant> as well as the #fedimins covenant <https://fedimins.net/en/covenant/> which is still a work in progress.

the current kerfuffle with mastodon.au, and the recent one with mastodon.lol are a wake-up call for the fediverse. They have exposed a critical weakness that must be addressed if the fediverse is to grow and flourish. If brushed aside with the though "just move" there will be serious cracks in the foundation of the community we're building. We can't let that happen. #Fediverse #FediverseGovernance #CommunityBuilding
