Just need a solid set of server rules.

IMO a politician maintaining a personal account on a public or private instance outside of ServeThePeopleSocial would still be a good idea.

The server could stay around for 20+ years and wouldn't be run by any party.
They would fund it themselves.
They could block all the nasty trolls at the server level.

Could be used as a Mastodon home for Dems/progressives - doubtful if they would tear each other apart - lively discussions maybe.

Rules would keep deniers out.

It would help political candidates establish some longevity in terms of Mastodon address and
could be used for political campaigns and those people would probably be willing to donate enough money to keep the server going for a few years + moderation.

It would be very useful in the USA if some server admin could set up two servers, one for center-to-left oriented political candidates and one for more conservative candidates.

If #NotReallyTruth social + gab + BirdSite are enough for right-wingers then only 1 new instance is needed.

A server called ServeThePeople.social for center-to-left oriented political candidates, not run by any political party, might be better for all.

I am aware of one instance that does not permit discussions about money, religion or politics but it also has many other restricted content types.

In the future there might be more instances that add no discussions about politics or religion to their server rules.
Some people might like that type of community.

It's doubtful if any type of generic rule like no politicians could be enforced across the #Fediverse.
"Find another server" will be the response.

When people are considering a run at a primary campaign in the USA they probably do not have the funds or background to set up their own Mastodon server.
If they want to challenge an incumbent then a party run server is probably not going to give them an account.
If they win a primary then they could consider something more permanent than an account on a public instance.

It seems wrong to let big corporate money control the nomination process.

#FediversePoliticians are probably the most complicated type of users.
A first reaction might be to keep them out of the public #Fediverse but there are some situations most people have not considered where a distributed system could really help.

What if 2021-1-6 in DC had been horribly worse?
Any government intent on a coup would probably first shutdown all government and political party Mastodon servers.
More difficult to shutdown 1000+ servers.

Currently it is difficult to find any company that provides #VirtualBusinessServers that politicians could use for the long term.
I found a few sites with German language but I am unsure if they can/would provide service to North American clients.

Most USA politicians don't seem to want to give up on BirdSite.
Hopefully this situation improves in the near future.

For the immediate future people may have to accept politicians in the #Fediverse.

Four Mastodon account types for USA politicians
1 personal account
2 running in primary
3 using party server to run in general election
4 using government server to interact with constituents

For longevity 1 and 2 work better on a non-public server.
Politicians are people too so having an account for personal purposes should be acceptable as long as the server rules are followed (no disinformation).

Doubtful if any election denier could follow typical server rules.

IMO to ban all politicians and political discussions from the #Fediverse would be a disservice to the entire world.
If politicians were isolated to only servers run by a party then people like AOC would have no chance of getting elected since corporate interests would completely take over.
The documentary "Knock Down The House" can still be found on #FluTube.

Punters like myself need a platform free of corporate interests to present their ideas and obtain feedback.

Earlier today I found accounts for two USA Democratic House Reps on two different servers.
Rather than sending them a warm welcome to Mastodon toot I'm going on a bit of a rant to identify some important issues involving politicians using a public Mastodon instance.

It's complicated considering how polarized things have become in the USA since the infamous "not sending their best people" diatribe delivered from the bottom of a NYC escalator in 2015.
