here are some tips for those coming from other social platforms or who are new to the Fediverse:

* No algorithms here, it's all about boosts. Boosting guarantees maximum reach for a post and increases the chances of it being seen by as many people as possible. Favouriting, on the other hand, is a direct way to say thanks to the person who posted without giving any visibility advantage. In simple terms, boost means "Hey, everyone, check this out!" and favourite is a soft-spoken "Thank you!" to the content creator.
* Make good use of hashtags: they are the primary way users in the Fediverse discover content. When you post, for example, about #FreeBSD, using the relevant hashtag will give you the best chance to be "discovered" by more people. Many software platforms (like Mastodon, but not only) also allow following hashtags, and many users do so.
* There are hashtags for specific days/events. For instance, many share cat photos on Saturdays using the hashtag "Caturday". By following that hashtag, you'll see all the cat photos known to the server and posted with that hashtag.
* Interact! The best way to gain visibility and social connections is through interaction. No algorithm will promote you if you don't engage and post.

I really like the fact that now it is possible to follow other instances through 3rd party apps ( @IceCubesApp and @tooot and maybe more).

This feature simplify the transition from twitter to mastodon a lot.

Can anyone explain to me why the mastodon app I use on my phone (that I downloaded through the web as I set up my new acct a few months ago, NOT an app through apple store) and the actual web page load new content differently? I can go 11 or 12 hours before my phone refreshes but my laptop screen refreshes content faster than I can read! #Newbie #MastodonHelp #FediverseTips

Twitter is the best place to find good accounts to follow in the #Fediverse.

Mastodoners, can anyone help me understand why I can only see some of the followers on other people's accounts? Like, when I look at their page from my own instance it will show some of their followers/following, but if I click over to their instance I can see hundreds more. Do I only see the accounts that are on instances that my instance is federated with?

Then you want to UNFOLLOW a #hashtag ;
1st method is simple needs a bit luck though;
1) Find a tooth inyour main flow which contains the hashtag you want to unfollow
2) When you click on the hashtag,
this will take you to the related hashtag's list, On the upper RIGHT corner you will see a person icon with an X mark on it.
3) Click PersonX then you are done

My preferred style of replying to address someones statements is to move all mentions to the bottom of the reply.
This makes topics like #MastodonHabits your main subject not the other person
