Gilligan and Ginger over here trying to figure out how to get past the new 'cage' I put around the feeder..

We had a super productive morning at our local conservation center for Cornell’s #ProjectFeederWatch. A nice bit of diversity! That red-headed woodpecker 🤩

There's been a large flock of blackbirds, mostly red-winged, visiting almost daily since the beginning of March. I counted about 70 one time, which did include about 20 starlings. There's four grackles in the group, and I've been trying to get a decent shot of them, with the limits of my slow and not quite long enough focal length lens..
They have the most beautiful colours of black in the sunlight.

I finally finished a visualization for #TidyTuesday #dataviz in #rstats for the #FeederWatch data from January. I wanted to answer the questions:
For each U.S. state, what was the most frequently observed bird that was not observed in any bordering state?
You can click on each state in my {leaflet} map for a popup with the bird. (You may need to right-click to follow the link to the ebird.org site.)

Common Grackles showed up today at my feeders (Long Point, ON) after a brief hiatus (I haven't had one since Nov 12). While not my favourite visitor -their iridescent colours are quite stunning. They were number 14 on the top 25 #feederwatch list for Ontario last season.
2 hawks - not sure if Cooper or Sharp-Shinned - on a telephone pole in our front yard. The ravens were NOT happy to have them there and are now escorting them out of the area!

@redcrew Not every day, no. When I fill the feeders, I put out a tin can full of "Don Roberto Game Bird Food" & the ravens seem to have discovered it. It's not unusual to see 40+ quail, but this many ravens is new. They started doing this a month or so ago, so I don't know what changed. #Feederwatch tells me "that's an unusual number of ravens". Indeed it is!
This week's #FeederWatch counts are now posted for my site. We had 18 species and 104 individuals this time! Our local Cooper's Hawks have been stopping by regularly also. Link to data here:

OK, there were NOT 32 ravens in my back yard. There were FIFTY-NINE ravens!

Me: *fills bird feeders & puts out game bird seed on the groun*
[later] wow, there are 32 ravens in the back yard!
#Feederwatch: That seems like an unusual amount of ravens. Please provide evidence.

Late evening snack in bed I guess?
Mourning #Dove, taken a couple evenings ago, and it was actually quite dim.. the camera brightened up the scene quite a bit! Fair bit of grain, and not the best shot, but I thought it was cute :owi:

American robin in winter. I was so happy to see them. Definitely an unusual entry on my #feederwatch report
Bird report: multiple dark-eyed junco, black-capped chickadees, two mourning doves, female cardinal in the cedars, white-breasted nuthatch, and male hairy woodpecker on a neighbour's suet feeder.
Nerd report: still nerdy.
