It was released in January 1981 as the lead single from Talking Heads' fourth studio album, #RemainInLight (1980), through #SireRecords. Eno and Talking Heads developed "Once in a Lifetime" through extensive #jams, inspired by #Afrobeat musicians such as #FelaKuti. #DavidByrne's vocals were inspired by preachers delivering sermons.

I've gone for a track off Fela's London Scene, because it was the first album he made with his Africa 70 band - the band with whom he and Tony Allen created afrobeat.
I picked a Tony Allen song last week for the bilingual theme, and this number is also bilingual. It all fits together. Sort of.

In 1973 opent #BakotaStudios, deze wordt gebruikt door zowel locals als #FelaKuti waar Baker al een paar opnames mee had gemaakt en het idee kwam voor een studio naar westerse normen, als wereldsterren als #PaulMcCartney. De studio faalt en laat Baker achter met een kater.
In 1974 vormt hij de band #BakerGurvitzArmy, met de broers Paul en Andy Gurvitz.
