Ran 32miles last weekend in one training run. Longest ever. Felt good. Ran again Tuesday. Then leant over to feed the cats and twanged my back. Not been able to run since! So frustrating at peak of training. I run, so sometimes I need to get new running shoes. It’s always been a bit fraught getting shoes but not knowing what environmental impact that’s having, and whether there’s much difference between different models.

Recently, I found that a couple of companies publish data about the impact of their shoes. That gives a useful ballpark for all shoes, and makes me feel less bad about getting new ones — the embodied CO2 is actually quite low.

Went to have a look at https://gofar997.wixsite.com/gofar/traverse-of-assynt to see how the 23:54 FKT I set on the #AssyntTraverse in 2016 is holding up. I see it stood until 2021 (Tom Cowie, Ross Pape, 18:15), and then last year James Gibson took it down to 17:10 unsupported, that’s in the ballpark I expected a proper hill runner could be expected to finish. So you’ll get the theme by now, I enjoy the Lakeland Fells, I have spaniels that need exercise, and they are happy for me to go along to keep them company. Here on a Friday evening after work run this spring. Of course a run up #StridingEdge, over #Helvellyn and down #SwirralEdge isn’t without its risks, however I’ve been in the mountains as a rock-climber, mountaineer, mountian-biker, skier and runner for over 35 years so comfortable.

I’m trying to get a grip of Mastodon in an attempt to move away from the anger and angst of Twitter, but it’s a little unfamiliar.
So I’m after advice ranging from which server should I be on, does it even matter, to how I get the best out of Mastodon, and indeed please tag any accounts I should follow and vice versa. Thanks!

I’m not normally a poetry person, but @quosh shared “It ain’t what you do it’s what it does to you” by the wonderful Simon Armitage last week. I ran past Black Moss res today & reflected on the poem. It captures perfectly the joy I take in fell running alone. There’s a joy in leaping between the bogs, stopping to snap a photo to capture the beauty myself in image, not words. I didn’t see another soul for 12 straight km today, it was blissful! #poetry #FellRunning #running
