Feminist Economics is a peer-reviewed journal that provides an open forum for dialogue and debate about feminist economic perspectives. By opening new areas of economic inquiry, welcoming diverse voices, and encouraging critical exchanges, the journal enlarges and enriches economic discourse. The goal of Feminist Economics is not just to develop more illuminating theories, but to improve the conditions of living for all children, women, and men.

From: The future is degrowth: a guide to a world beyond capitalism

3.5. Feminist critique

The feminist critique of growth is based on the thesis that, in a capitalist economy geared towards economic growth and productivity, the vital reproductive work of society – which is largely carried out by women, in particular Indigenous and Black women, and women of colour – remains fundamentally unacknowledged, invisible, devalued, and precarious.

This economic system is therefore essentially a patriarchal one. ...

Reproductive or care work is understood to mean all those activities that directly serve the maintenance and well-being of people, ranging from accompanying children and the elderly to cooking, housework, caring activities, and, in some definitions, gardening or repair work for personal needs, caring for nature, or subsistence farming.

These activities comprise between 30 and 70 per cent of the economic output of a country ...

This crisis is necessarily linked to the crisis-like development of the human–nature relationship. ...

This is the prerequisite and goal of gender justice – and centring care has become a key cornerstone of degrowth.

"Questions about the future of society, work, and humanity are often answered with “automation”, or “artificial intelligence”; just the inevitable consequences of the cult of progress. But many feel that there are things much more important than technology, like our collapsing ecosystems and social relationships."

@Amateur Cities and the @Institute of Network Cultures present this cooperative future-thinking effort from the @MoneyLab network. We live in a an economic system that is global, competitive, and centred around the rational and egoistic vision of the homo economicus. How we can embrace different values focusing on locality, cooperation, and caring?
