The photo is of a farmers vehicle's track - that has made a groove, or a rut, in a field. "Rut" - a track worn by a wheel or by habitual passage: a groove in which something runs.

The rut reminded me of modern consumerist society (a train track would also work). The same "old ground", or " business as usual ". The same old politics & economics that has caused the climate to change. The same old geopolitics. The same old stone age

The evidence suggests that society must change it's general direction of travel, if it's to avoid an ecological crisis. It must reverse the trend of ecological destruction.

But, the society is stuck in a rut!

The ecologically unsustainable"rut" is generally being caused by societies habits, peoples habits of exploiting & polluting the environment (e.g., burning fuels, plastic pollution, etc). Some people have argued that it will take a crisis to get humanity out of that "rut".

"Stuck in a rut" is being compounded by the socioeconomic model of consumerism growth.

To escape from that rut, society will have to shrink not "grow" (expand). But, the same forms of economics & politics that got society more deeper into the fuel dependent rut, for example, by under investing in public transport & heavily investing in private vehicles, are today's "world" leaders & billionaire "rocket men" CEOs (whom just so happen, for example, to be the owners of car companies that sell private vehicles)

As entrepreneurs, they surely seem to lack any original idea's that are not about making a profit..

unnecessary in planted on former agricultural land

Researchers at Linnaeus University have studied the effects of fertilisation and irrigation in 25-year-old stands of pedunculate and sessile oak that grow on former agricultural land in southwest . The results show that fertilisation does not lead to increased production and it does only cause a small increase, or none at all, in the water uptake of the oaks. idw-online.de/en/news809545

Conclusion :
"L'installation durable des légumineuses dans les territoires requiert donc aussi des politiques publiques incitant l'ensemble des acteurs concernés à s'impliquer de manière coordonnée dans une démarche de changement."

We discussed the latest paper from our lab's PI
"Light competition drives herbivore and nutrient effects on plant diversity", Eskelinen et al. 2022, Nature
nature.com/articles/s41586-022

- Competition for is a main mechanism leading to loss following and absence of grazers

- effect can outpace the effects of fertilisation on light competition
