Fresh from #fiberartcamp , I'd like to join in please.
I have 2 #WIPs languishing which I could do with wearing this Autumn #Fall
#FiberArtCamp Reflection Sunday
First off, I learned I have a hard time staying within my instance's 500-character limit when I'm writing about fiber things.
I'm not uncomfortable about it, but I'm outside my regular comfort zone with the fiber community here on Mastodon. It's been fun and eye-opening to see the different fiber arts represented and enjoyed here. I definitely feel like I've been shaken out of a bit of a rut.
Thank you, everybody!
Day 7 of #FiberArtCamp is #ReflectionSunday and the last day of camp. I learned some things about myself and Mastodon, and made some new friends.
I sometimes feel like I don’t finish most things I start and feel pretty bad about that. Not just fiber arts but everything in life. Responding to the prompts made me think about all my crafts and acknowledge that even if that may be true (and I have no good way to objectively measure) I have made a great many knitted and crocheted things over the years, and my life is enriched by them. And what’s more I love the process of making and should probably take more WIP photos.
The camp hashtags helped me find the fiber art community on Mastodon. It’s the first time since I started being active here in Nov ‘22 that I have felt the things I post found their audience.
Reading other’s responses was a pleasure, too, and I think I followed a dozen new people. My feed has a lot more craft photos in it, which is a joy.

@madgeface Dang, I missed this one! But now I am following and I hope that there might be other cool #FiberArtCamp type events and projects!
#FiberArtCamp - it's the last day, #ReflectionSunday and time to say farewell, at least to the hashtag! I don't normally take part in things like this, but this week has been lots of fun, and there's been some wonderful posts.
Thanks to @madgeface for organizing everything, and thanks to everyone who has taken part and shared their work.

#reflectionsunday #fiberartcamp #fiberart This week I met a bunch of new to me artists , and discovered I don't follow enough people to see the prompts for this kind of event. Thanks for organizing it.
I will drop in a final picture of a challenge piece I did a few years ago, to show that I also sew and make handbags.

Well here we are at #ReflectionSunday on our #FiberArtCamp and it has been a good and wholesome week with positive vibes from lots of other #crafters and #makers. I have met great new accounts and had good chats with those who are fast becoming friends. Thanks @madgeface for the idea. 👏👏👏🧶🧶🧶

Final day of #FiberArtCamp. It's that bittersweet day when we're all piling on the buses that send us to the far flung places we call home. Though we all promise to meet again next summer! And we can write letters (or toots I guess) all year!
On this #ReflectionSunday I want to appreciate all the incredible people that shared their passion and their projects. Thank you @madgeface for prompting us.
#fiberartcamp #reflectionsunday
#FiberArtCamp #ReflectionSunday What did I learn? There's a lot more to fiber arts than just knitting and crochet! Who did I meet? So many cool artists: weavers, spinners, knitters, archaeologists, needle felters, quilters, and on and on! Thanks for doing this @madgeface !
#fiberartcamp #reflectionsunday
It's already the last day of #FiberArtCamp. So let's look back on #ReflectionSunday
What did I learn? A new way to keep spare yarn for possible future repairs. Just make a small braid and weave it at some invisible place into your project. A seam, an edge that will not be seen. I already sew a spare button into cardigans, but never thought about doing so with yarn.
Might not work with easy feltable / fullable yarns like certain wools.
Who did I meet? My follow list grew a lot.

Have loved this week’s #FiberArtCamp - massive thanks to @madgeface for organising
It has been great for seeing brilliant and inspiring work, connecting with new people and getting new ideas. I want to make the Lord of the Rings scarf, the Totoro cardi, the crocheted skull shawl and so much more, I’m in awe of the weavers, spinners, yarn-dyers and quilters, I want to upcycle/ recycle more and I need to learn how to knit brioche. Same time next year? #fiberarts
#FiberArtCamp #CartoonSaturday Anything Celtic - voice, instrumental, bagpipes, whatever. I think it's an ancestral thing - I'm 60% English, 15% each Irish and Scottish so go figure.
Sometimes Folk Music. But that gets me singing and my family tend to start howling in pain and it upsets my supervisor (Wizard the cat)!
We should have a day to showcase our quality inspectors/supervisors.

#FiberArtCamp #CartoonSaturday I like to watch movies when I spin or knit. It helps to make me look up from staring at one fixed place for hours. I also listen to audiobooks or podcasts, but I really like those better when I’m moving around a bit more. I used to read more than I do now. My eyes are cranky enough these days that it’s harder than I wish it was to find a setup & the right glasses to change fine focus to reading.

I started listening to audiobooks years ago to keep that part of my brain amused while listening. I often listen to things multiple times.
Eclectic listening tastes. Repeat faves include Pride and Prejudice (read by Rosamund Pike); Kaiju Preservation Society (read by Wil Wheaton); and Discovery of Witches. Recent listens include How to American, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, Book Lovers, and Crocodile on the Sandbank

Today’s #FiberArtCamp prompt is #CartoonSaturday - what do you watch or listen to while you’re making?
At the minute, I’m doing #blackworkembroidery while we have music on shuffle in the background (so far this evening I’ve enjoyed Arch Garrison, Tame Impala and some of the Guilty Pleasures album!), but I often have TV/ streaming on (last week The Peripheral, again)
Sewing usually means BBC Radio 4, often punctuated by YouTube How To videos (especially when I have to thread the overlocker!)

#FiberArtCamp day 6 #CartoonSaturday
When I got into knitting as an adult, I also got into fanfiction at the same time. I used to copy paste chapters of fanfiction into TextEdit and play it using text-to-speech. Later, a friend gave me his old Kindle which had text to speech and I started listening to all kinds of books while doing crafts.
I mostly read speculative fiction, and so whole series are associated with certain projects. For example, I listened to Murderbot and the Vorkasigan saga while making the bulk of this crochet hexagon blanket.
#fiberartcamp #cartoonsaturday
#FiberArtCamp #CartoonSaturday All kinds of things! The TAZ podcast, various books and other stories, often movies and shows. We watched Spiderverse while knitting the little pocket for our wheelchair.
#fiberartcamp #cartoonsaturday
While sewing, I listen to podcasts ( usually on CBC Listen). While I'm knitting I stream British mystery shows. One does need to remember to stop knitting for a few minutes during the climax, or one will need to tink (unknit) back and do that bit over again. #cartoonsaturday #fiberartcamp
