Second project for this craft-a-long - one sock down, one to go.

Progress is slow - I like the colors, the pattern stitch looks simple enough. But it takes an surprising amount of concentration to get the shifts correct, so it's not really mindless #knitting

I've also decided what to do with one of my other sockknitting projects: frogging. Adding an elaborate, fold-down cuff, size 10 feet and 100 g of yarn don't go together.

I crossed another WIP off of my list! I’m jumping the gun on killing projects for #FallFinishAlong (which is officially in Week 3) because I’ll be out of town. I officially frogged this Harlow Hat which has been in progress maybe the same length of time as the slip stitch sock or maybe even longer (?!). The beautiful Spincycle yarn is ready for another project now. Might still end up in a brioche project. Just not this one. #knitting #FiberArts @knitting @fiberarts

Today’s #FallFinishAlong accomplishment is that I officially frogged a single sock I have had in a project bag for the last 5 years. I developed the slip stitch pattern for self-striping yarn myself. I had a bunch of momentum, and then set it down and just never got back to it. The yarn is still awesome and cheerful so it will become something some day. #knitting #FiberArts @knitting @fiberarts

Version two of the Hyla charted design.

On the one hand, Hyla is apparently a name meaning a variety of things (depending on whether a given baby name site claims it’s of Hebrew, Latin, or Greek origin). On the other hand, it’s the genus for tree frogs.

My great-great-aunt was named Hyla; her father was familiar with animal taxonomy. Your guess is as good as mine about the intent there.

The “How old are your WIPs poll” is closed! There are a lot of adulting WIPs out there. And lots of people have at least one long-term WIP laying around. Nothing wrong with older WIPs! Some are even treasures and heirlooms. Still, starting tomorrow we’ll talk about how to get over whatever keeps us from finishing them, and the week after we’ll even perhaps commit to ripping/killing some!

The first week of #FallFinishAlong is almost over. How’s it going for everyone?

So far I have finished 2 pairs of socks and 4 hexiflats. I also wove in the ends for a camisole. It turns out it is huge - I could take it in 2 inches on each side and I probably will before blocking. No progress on Xmas stockings but might do it next week. Getting ready for Week 2 of the finishalong which is about overcoming blockers on our WIPs.

Also, an actual project bag needs compartments for patterns, tools and notions. We use tens of them, most of them are tiny, and no one wants to rummage around for a tin or a zipper bag at the bottom of the giant tote to keep notions organised.

And again, people have kids and pets, and projects they’d like to be safe. Just add a closure, I beg of you.

I made two more “hexiflats” for my beekeeper’s quilt yesterday but as you can see from this photo, the project is only 12 hexagons so far. For a 3x4 quilt, the estimate is 384 so I have a long, long way to go. Definitely not a candidate for this #FallFinishAlong but a nice change of pace. I’m actually enjoying getting back to it. #knitting #FiberArts @knitting @fiberarts

My new DIY spinning cart. The top attaches with Velcro and the cart folds up to almost nothing. I made sure the top overhang was big enough to allow clamping various tools. I had my on order dean and bean CSM in mind, but it's absolutely perfect for my Hanson too. Can't wait to take it to an event. 💕 In the meantime I'm starting the second half of my baby camel singles. #fiberarts #spinning

This is 16oz of Shetland roving, all from a ewe named Meghan at Valley View Farm (https://valleyviewfarmwa.com). 🐑

It's already surprisingly soft, so hopefully the resulting yarn will be as well. 16oz is gonna take a while, so I'll have to wait to find out.
