@lamp maybe they have multiple Windows VMs on their storage, so deduplication & caching of disks sped it up quite well...

After all, any datacenter will decouple compute, network and storage layers as much as they can, and said storage will be transparently connected [via #FibreChannel or #iSCSI (over #Ethernet)] to some giant-ass SAN to allow for seamless host migrations...

#OmniOS is a really nice server oriented #Unix in my experience. I've never put it into production, but have it running on some decommed machines at work. It was surprisingly straightforward to expose ZFS datasets as #FibreChannel LUNS using COMSTAR. Havn't played much with Zones yet, but that seems cool too

I’m a EE (communications / signal processing focus) by training, which I’ve been putting to use for quite a while now working on high-performance #MRI reconstructions at the Mayo Clinic in #rochestermn, using C++, #OpenMP and #MPI.

I use #FreeBSD and #ZFS anywhere I can, and manage to put in a little time maintaining a few #MacPorts packages that I use for the dayjob.

Previously worked on optical #FibreChannel and #Ethernet for #IBM and JDS Uniphase.
