Inspired by the #mending #fibruary posts, last night I went through the kid's washed laundry (that they washed!) and found the leggings with holes in the knees. I'm now in the process of sewing several heart patches to keep the life going until they grow out of them. Will save at least $20 in replacement leggings!

Tiny darning loom for a small hole! I managed to catch this sock on a sliver of hardwood, damaging my foot, the floor, and ripping a chunk out of the sock. Ouch! The floor isn't fixed yet but my foot and sock are patched over now.

#fibruary #mending Purchased 5 pairs of hand knit socks from a co-worker’s mom nearly 20 years ago. I love them. They were finally showing wear. First time mender, but serviceable nonetheless.

Without knowing it, I started off mending week of #fiberuary '23 correctly.

Family Day when I was quiet was about What the Washing Machine does to those Holes you Wore in This. My eyebrow was not arched the entire time that I mended but that's because it was sunny, I used stars on a purple ground and breathed through it. #Fibruary #stitching

Whereas grey 3-ply Romney handspun is 14 stockinette stitches in the round on 4.5mm dpns. I start!

It's snug. You can use a 2-ply handspun in stranded joyous knitting that turns roses to hearts. It will be um, less than 14 stockinette stitches in the round though. Matters not to me. YMMV! #knitting #fiberuary #Fibruary

My submission for #fibruary is a work in progress on several levels. It's yarn made from a friend's sheep, cleaned and processed over the past year, then spun into 4-ply.
I keep running out of yarn (as demonstrated), so have to go back to combing and spinning as I go along. I reckon two more bobbins!
I love this cardigan because it shows my progress in spinning and wool processing over the past year, from top to bottom.

I have never knitted a sweater before, but as someone recently told me here... you can always just take it out and use the yarn again, so I might just plunge into this new adventure called #knitting that is truly a lovely hobby.

The second handspun yarn I used for knitting. For this shawl, I used a dyed braid in pink, green, purple, white, blue, pink and variants and did a two-ply yarn with a plain green braid. I wanted a pattern that would highlight and group the colour changes. I don't have the pattern as it was on paper, but there are similar ones around. It is modular and stitches are picked up from the completed section below. Back of warp sampling is weaving holes. Huck lace doesn't show under tension but those skips will shift in washing, open into a lacey cloth. I am using tied silk thrums as weft now.

Non-weavers, "thrums" is code for loom waste. This tied style is getting a little more common with in our weaving culture. I dislike the waste of good yarn.

I've got this lovely rainbow cotton yarn, but only 100g of it - 250 metres, and it uses a 3mm #crochet hook. Enough to make a little shawl maybe?

I'm wondering if the #fibruary #fibreruary people could suggest a pattern (since it's "holes" week)

Advice needed: I bought an intermediate/advanced #crochet pattern in a fit of enthusiasm, but have never crocheted anything in my life. I've no idea how to even read the thing, making it difficult to figure out how to start teaching myself the skills/stitches I'll need to know.

Any crochet enthusiasts have pointers on good resources to start learning? I tried looking for YouTube tutorials but there are so many to choose from & I want to be sure my fundamentals are good/correct. #help #fibruary

Helping my mother clear up her home, we came across some of her ancient work-in-progress #needlework. (Also from my grandmother, but that will be my next project).

So today I managed to finish it for her. Put it in a nice frame. It skipped a generation, but now her granddaughter will enjoy it, I will hang it in her room (after she is gifted it on her birthday).
