I'm assessing a sci-fi manuscript in which all the characters are male except 3. Of the 3 ladies, 2 are dead and 1 exposed her breasts. I have a hunch as to why no agent has picked this up yet, despite the otherwise strong writing.

The good news: the author has a chance to fix it.

#Today I got out for a bike ride in 80-degree weather -- in February! My husband made dinner while I played games with the kids. And after dinner, I got to work on my #WIP for more than an hour, uninterrupted. Quite dreamy.

#Writetip: When you sit down to start a new chapter in your #novel, reread the end of the previous chapter to remind yourself what was the last thing you told your reader. Then be sure to fill in whatever essential background may have happened between chapters. You don't have to start with background, but you do need to connect the dots at some point and usually pretty early.

In its most basic form, a #novel is a series of #scenes between #characters that advances the #plot and tells us something about the characters. Description is used sparingly to string the scenes together. If your novel doesn't sound like this, it might not be a novel.
