This week we're at the @OpenStreetMapUS State of Map US conference! We've got four great presentations lined up about Full Stack Cartography, Field Papers, Vector Tile Engineering, and our recent work designing basemaps for Amazon Location Services! If you've been using #OpenStreetMap for a while, you might have heard of the tool called #FieldPapers, which lets mappers collect geodata the old school, low-tech way -- pen and paper.
It's easy to use, and requires very little training
The smart folks at @heigit improved on that idea with their new #SketchMap tool

Happy to share about #OpenStreetMap, #FieldPapers, #MapComplete, #Mapillary and #RapiD to the enthusiastic folks from #IloiloCity

In case you missed the announcement: We're excited to transition the Field Papers project into the stewardship of @OpenStreetMapUS for the ongoing benefit of the #OpenStreetMap community at large. After 11 years and more than 3 million maps, we're looking forward to seeing #FieldPapers continue to thrive under new management! https://stamen.com/a-new-home-for-field-papers/
Great news for #OpenStreetMap: the Field Papers project has been adopted into the suite of tools that @OpenStreetMapUS supports for the benefit of the larger OSM community. For over 11 years, Stamen has led and supported the development and maintenance of this important #OpenSource tool, and we're more than excited to transition it into the capable hands of the OpenStreetMap US organization. https://stamen.com/a-new-home-for-field-papers/ #FieldPapers

My day has been this: Can I create a plugin that would mimic some of the functionality of #FieldPapers (on my limited Python knowledge). What I've got is 4 QR codes in each corner, with the code of the bounding box of that corner. #OpenCV reads the QR code, figures out it's location on the page, and creates a QGIS .points ground control point file for that image, it works quite well! (Although my min/max function need some figuring out)
Had a walk over to Toolstation to buy a "1ohm wire-wound 25W resistor" earlier, so printed out some #fieldpapers to do some mapping of the Fabric District en route, as prep for my mapping workshop with #TakingRoot

While mapping a random neighborhood in Leyte, #Philippines on #OpenStreetMap, I stumbled on these detailed drainage maps.
I got curious and left a comment in the changeset, wondering how they're being used.
The team behind the effort apparently published a paper about it last year, with Open data and software (#OpenStreetMap, #FieldPapers, #QGIS) : "An Open Data Approach to Mapping Urban Drainage Infrastructure in Developing Communities"
