I want to congratulate #Democrats for finally winning the #FightFor15. Now that inflation has made $15 worth what $7.25 was the last time #MinimumWage was increased fourteen (!) years ago, every fast food joint I see in Southern #Oregon is offering $15/hour.

Actually, I just checked, and $7.25 in 2009 dollars is really only $10.28. So, progress?

Outside of a measly $1,400 stimulus check that was supposed to be $2,000, three months of a meager Child Tax Credit that has been eaten up tenfold by corporate inflation, an "infrastructure" bill that only subsidizes private investment but leaves public infrastructure to rot, and a "climate change" law that gives more money to Frackers and fossil fuel burners than to even EV's?

And don't even get me started on COVID or #FightFor15.

I'd like to congratulate the #Democrats on their successful strategy of waiting long enough to win the #FightFor15. Just about every fast food joint now pays $15/hr round here. Except now $15 is worth about $7.25 in when-the-fight-started dollars.

When I go out to a restaurant or bar (which has become a very rare occasion), I think about how #minimumwage hasn’t gone up in 14 years, and how the #fightfor15 movement was ten years ago. So when the service sucks, the order takes forever, and it’s is screwed up when it arrives, I don’t get upset, because I don’t expect anyone to give much of a sh!t for a third-world wage. Very much looking forward to when I’m able to leave this country.

I would love to hear MBA professors chime in on this, but I know they'd likely talk (type) out of both sides of their mouths (hands).

I remember the 'Fight for 15' campaign, which aimed to increase the minimum wage to $15 per hour. Many EMTs expressed frustration, stating that they only made $15 per hour to save lives, and argued that fast food workers did not deserve to be paid the same wage. It was difficult to persuade the EMTs that they too were underpaid. Our politicians and media often pit different groups against each other, rather than fostering solidarity and understanding. #fightfor15 #fuckitfightfor20

3/🧵 From about 2008-12 I was involved in organizing in the food and beverage industry. Long before today's #StarbucksWorkersUnited and before even #FightFor15. We had meetings at Common Roots a few times. They offered a community room to non profits for free. We used it but I don't think mentioned precisely what kind of non profit we were. I'll actually miss the place a bit.
