Unless you're independently wealthy, your source of income has power over you. Your landlord or mortgage holder has power over you. The places you shop have power over you. Your bank has power over you. Your ISP and your phone company. Some more, some less. If you need medication to live, the doctor, pharmacy, drug maker, and the DEA all have power over you.

As I said at the start, to some extent, this is inevitable. But pay attention to where it concentrates. Maintaining freedom depends on not letting any one person get too much power. Be wary of those who seek power. Be wary of those who get it by accident.

I have a bit more to say on this topic, but I'm tired, so I'll leave you with the protest music I listened to as a teenager, which seems to be just as relevant today as it was in 1990

Clarance Thomas needs to resign or be impeached. There’s enough credible evidence of corruption that it’s undermines what little faith we have left in the court. It needs to be investigated. Congress’s duty of oversight is the only way to keep #SCOTUS corruption. If he’s innocent, let the investigation prove that, but it must be investigated if we’re not going to just give in to corruption.

I mean, I know the Republicans won’t let it pass the House and they won’t convict in the Senate, they’re not going to give up that power.

Democrats are apparently going to concede this fight without even trying, not that I expect more from the party who still wants to compromise with fascists.

Politics aside, corruption in our highest court is an existential threat to stability and the country. That no one can do anything about it is really bad. That no one is even trying is terrifying.
