Whenever I load film in a film change bag, I’ve got this floof next to me looking like this. She nudges me every time with a ‘surely I’m more interesting than film development?!’ nibble every couple of minutes. Then she tries to pounce on my hands that are moving in the change bag. I love her so much

Steel is reel.

Finally switched to steel reels and tanks. In SF, Glass Key Photo usually has a bunch of used steel reels and tanks and they’ve very affordable there. They also last forever. I started with Paterson and plastic, and think I’ll start phasing those out in favor of these ones.

Also, the Leatherman Micra is my favorite tool for cutting film inside a changing bag. It’s so tiny and works well and I feel it gives me better control

Flic Film’s ECN-2 kit seems to be the best one I’ve used so far. Previously, I bought random powders from strangers online and the results were varied :)

The prebath is really good and better than the washing soda / borax solution I previously used. I also don’t want to muck around with lye, which was the only ingredient I didn’t have from Kodak’s original recipe.

As a geriatric millennial who was probably among the first generation to live with computers and printers, I just went to a darkroom and learned how to print photos from film negatives and not needing a computer to do any of that blows my mind.

It also helps me make sense of digital tools, like Photoshop masks and cropping.

Yesterday evening, I developed two rolls of KosmoFoto Agent Shadow, 400ASA film, 17:30 min in Rodinal 1+50, minus some time for 22°C. Perfectly uneventful, both rolls turned out just fine, cool.

The only problem was, I discovered it now while scanning the film, is... those weren't two rolls of the same film, the other was AgfaPhoto APX 400! 😬

Despite that the development times aren't the same, both rolls ended up perfectly fine! 🥳

Was up quite late last night finishing off a chemical batch of Kodak Flexicolor C-41 chemicals so I processed a roll of film to test them out. The test went well. :blobfoxcamera:

I've mixed a bottle of Fomacitro stop-bath in May 2020, and I've been using it ever since. Almost three years, and FIFTY rolls of film later, we've finally reached a point where I thought it might have changed color. And I was right, it became really pale!
So, time for a fresh bottle of stop-bath! I was astonished to realize how brightly colored it is, when it's fresh. Oh well, now I know better!

I miss film. I used to shoot 4x5 color reversal (Fujichrome Velvia 50 shot 1/3 stop over), and developed it myself. Nothing in photography has yet matched the fun of putting a big color slide on the lightbox to enjoy the colors popping out.
