Latest film opinion, this time 1973 Don Siegel thriller Charley Varrick, so loosely based on The Looters that it falls to pieces under pressure, but overall apart from an unlikely and somewhat silly last act a good film, especially considering its age. Some great supporting actors too. Watched Hopscotch (1980) this morning with the late, great Walter Matthau - what a fun, enjoyable film. For some daft reason, it warms the cockles of my heart to know that Matthau drove around in 1980s Ford Cortinas, Escorts and the famous and coveted, at the time, Rover SD1 - how silly is that?

Just finished watching Pyscho Goreman [in two stints due to interuptions] I have to say although it was made in 2020 it took me right back the 80/90s when I hired films from the video shop in Romsey. My opinion only but Andor has made me interested in Star Wars again. Bearing in mind I'm watching the entire film series in story chronological order with my granddaughter. It's like two different tales to be honest.

I prefer Andor's take on it.

Here's my gouache painting of Henry Hull in the only horror film he made. Werewolf of London. A film where Jack Pierce first tried out his 'wolfman' makeup that was eventually used by Lon Chaney Jr. The makeup ended up less heavy here because Hull rightly pointed out the screenplay said Dr Glendon was recognisable when he was the 'werewolf' which wouldn't have been the case if utterly hirsute.
