Romance, ironically, doesn’t get a lot of love when it comes to highbrow literary critics. But that’s the world of prose. On the silver screen, romance has always reigned supreme. This article is about a few hidden romantic gems from the 1990s that will sweep you off your feet.

I didn't start out my exploration of academia in the writing world - I started out in film school. And films are still very near and dear to my heart.

For filmschool students - their finished work had to be accompanied by an estimate of where they thought it was on the scale...with close reference to the grading criteria that we clarified and at times modified at the start.

This esp. applied to production work in assessment week.

Film school students are subject to quite a forbidding lexicon - but I have found they enjoy proxemics (relative distances) and haptics (touchings)

- a quick code that 🎬 helps with the scripting, on-set blocking (shared vocabulary with actors), and class analysis 💪

education: i did the #FilmSchool thing & then "returning student" thing. might do it again.

If I ever teach a first-year film course, I am NOT making a whole class watch BIRTH OF A NATION because it’s just not worth it. Why put them through that just to see examples of cinematic techniques that we can look at in other films from a few years later?

We just had a five-hour ADR session. ADR is so weird! And so exciting and challenging! It’s like retro-engineering a past performance. It’s an unexpected thrill for the director/editor to be able to make acting adjustments in post. Wild!
