Nobuhiko Obayashi’s SCHOOL IN THE CROSSHAIRS (1981) is exactly what you would expect from the legendary director’s 70/80s work… a lot of psychedelic visuals and thundering piano music interspliced with average slice of life teenage adventures. What a man!

John Woo’s Bullet in the Head, 1990. Starring a baby-faced Tony Leung, Jacky Cheung and Waise Lee as three buddies who wind up going through some shit.
The most bonkers plot held together by the most wonderful performances. Ended up tying through the last 20 minutes or so!!

Absolutely blown away by Hiroshi Teshigahara’s Woman in the Dunes, 1964.
If you’d told me this had come out last year I’d believe it. Timeless, terrifying, threatens to swallow you whole and reclaim your body to the sand. So immersive and impressive!!

Karaoke Terror (2003) is a pretty fun dark comedy based on a Ryu Murakami novel (who is my favourite author!!) It’s best to go in not knowing anything and just letting the story take you.
((It also has Masanobu Ando in it, who I have nursed a heavy crush on for nearly twenty years))
