Nobuhiko Obayashi’s SCHOOL IN THE CROSSHAIRS (1981) is exactly what you would expect from the legendary director’s 70/80s work… a lot of psychedelic visuals and thundering piano music interspliced with average slice of life teenage adventures. What a man!

Just popping in to say ‘Mikadroid: Robokill Beneath Disco Club Layla’ (1985) is probably in the top 20 film titles of all time

John Woo’s Bullet in the Head, 1990. Starring a baby-faced Tony Leung, Jacky Cheung and Waise Lee as three buddies who wind up going through some shit.
The most bonkers plot held together by the most wonderful performances. Ended up tying through the last 20 minutes or so!!

Absolutely blown away by Hiroshi Teshigahara’s Woman in the Dunes, 1964.
If you’d told me this had come out last year I’d believe it. Timeless, terrifying, threatens to swallow you whole and reclaim your body to the sand. So immersive and impressive!!

Marlene Dietrich in The Devil is a Woman, 1935. This is a really fun campy film and I enjoyed it a lot. I love to see Marlene ruining men’s lives.

Karaoke Terror (2003) is a pretty fun dark comedy based on a Ryu Murakami novel (who is my favourite author!!) It’s best to go in not knowing anything and just letting the story take you.
((It also has Masanobu Ando in it, who I have nursed a heavy crush on for nearly twenty years))

I’ve completely forgotten to ask for your thoughts on this upcoming topic of discussion, 1995’s “WaterWorld”! Is this big-budget flop really all wet?

Even in Wong Kar Wai’s directorial debut you can see so much signature style in his shots, not to mention the gangster story wrapped up in a signature love story.
The Take My Breath Away sequence is up there as one of my favourites!!

It’s also bizarre to me that #EEAAO got a nom for costume but NOT make up? After the exquisite looks Stephanie was rocking. Does make up mean something else than I’m thinking? Like wounds and stuff lol #FilmToot #Oscars #CineMastodon
