Man, it bugs me that Laenor Valeryon, the "Oakenfist", is basically a footnote of a character in #HouseOfTheDragon, but in the book, he literally becomes a legend in Westeros.

This is why reading books is always going to be better than consuming stories simply via TV or movies.

It's a very good description of depression.

This is how I feel about 90% of the time. The other 10% are extremities of joy and sadness that punctuate the general malaise of my mental illness.

When #Dany watched Viserys have a pot of molten gold poured on him and react with satisfaction I knew #ASOIAF was special. When GRRM straight up took out what in *any other* fantasy epic would be the main character he had me as a fan for life.

New #ThisBookWillKillYou #wtfPod and #Unspooled to listen to today. A new #SomeMoreNews queued up to watch. A fresh episode of #AEWDynamite and this past weekend’s #WhiteLotus to digest. Another giant book (#FireAndBlood ) added to my to-read pile.
I’m sure there are more important things going on out there but

Un paio di settimane fa ho finito “Fuoco e sangue”, sempre di Martin. Avevo deciso di leggere il libro prima di fiondarmi sulla serie TV, e così ho fatto.

L’ho trovato, tutto sommato, avvincente fino all’ultimo quarto, ossia gli ultimi quattro o cinque capitoli che parlano degli eventi successivi alla fine della Danza dei Draghi, dove il libro perde, per me, di ritmo e di interesse.

Just finished #FireAndBlood by GRR Martin. I enjoyed it and zipped through it, but at the same time it’s oddly dry and quite boring at times. And I speak as a medieval historian, so I’ve read a lot of boring manuscripts. Maybe that’s why I got on with it? It’s like he read Tolkien and wanted more of the appendices and less of the actual plot. Volume 2, if he ever writes it (doubtful) feels as though it will be inessential. #books #historian #dragons

😃 Endlich.

I'm really taking to Fire & Blood, even it's more mundane chapters. I've come to realise it very much like the ASOIAF world, but this is just giving me big helpings of lore and world building that I like. I did like the main books but after 600th lengthy Sansa chapter you start to tap out a bit. #asoiaf #gameofthones #fireandblood

Might be nice to add, my current media lineup includes #CabinetOfCuriosities with #MidnightClub up next, reading #LiminalZone from Junji Ito, and very slowly consuming #GodOfWarRagnarok - Also still going through #HouseOfTheDragon withdrawal so listening to #FireAndBlood

I've had this book since it came out, about four years ago at this point I believe. Having read the original series before the HBO show was even an idea, I wasn't able to get into this volume before watching the new show.

I've decided that I'm now going to give this a #read. I've heard it described as "the Silmarillion of A Song of Ice and Fire", thus far I'd agree that's not too far off. Though I did have a far more difficult time with that tome. Ha.
