Rifle Volunteer Corps prize rifles of the 19thC are not uncommon, being awarded in local, regional and national competitions. In November 1860, 39 members of Wigan Rifle Volunteers competed for a Whitworth military target rifle (serial no. B40). It was presented for competition by the member of parliament for Wigan. @militaryhistory researchpress.co.uk/index.php/

Recently been losing sight of my desk under small arms trials reports and research. Closing out some work on the (not) adoption of the Whitworth rifle for British service. @militaryhistory

This volume in cloth binding simply carries the text 'R. L. PLATES' on its spine. Bound within it are 52 Royal Laboratory Ammunition Plates, opening to 24"x9.5". Most are in colour and carry full dimensions. Contents include small arms ammunition, fuzes, rockets, shells, and are dated 1861-1868. Royal Laboratory, Royal Gun Factory and Royal Carriage Department were manufacturing departments into which the Royal Arsenal was divided. @militaryhistory

Always good to add a new book to the library. Latest is John Walter’s ‘The Snider.’ Covers Jacob Snider, the Enfield Rifle-Musket, the search for its breech-loading replacement, and of course the Snider from its introduction to its eventual replacement by the Martini-Henry. Illustrated with colour photographs throughout.

Privileged. Assisting with Sharps rifle research and working through folders of correspondence. These are largely from noted 19thC English, Irish & Scottish riflemen to Sharps Rifle Company - ordering rifles, asking questions, sharing feedback. Consulting with De Witt Bailey who researched Sharps records in late 1950s, and making extensive notes.
