Games I Completed in 2023 #23:
Fire Emblem: Engage

Extremely predictable story, pointless base building minigame nonsense (that is thankfully optional) - and some of the best tactics game mechanics I have ever encountered.

The great parts about Engage far outweigh it's mediocre writing. I hope the future of the Fire Emblem series doesn't dumb down the mechanics. This is one of the best strategy games ever made.

Easily my favorite Fire Emblem game.

Game of the Week 8/6/2023:
Fire Emblem: Engage

I'm having a lot more fun with Engage than I expected. It's the first Fire Emblem game I have played since Awakening. I'm almost finished with it, and it's likely to become my favorite.

The story is pretty generic, but the core game mechanics are solid - some of the best in the genre.

Terminado el Fire Emblem Engage en normal. 52 horas me ha durado. Gráficos bien. Música bien. Personajes e historia mucho mejor que en el Three Houses. He hecho todo el contenido del DLC así que le he sacado bastante partido.

Los personajes son prácticamente todos muy cómicos. Quizá es el Fire Emblem más "cachondo" que recuerdo. Juegan mucho con las contradicciones entre el aspecto y la personalidad: los caballeros con armaduras gigantes aficionados a la filosofía o a la cocina y las chicas delgadas que están obsesionadas con construir cosas o muscularse.

Creo que por primera vez en un Fire Emblem principal han conseguido encontrar una fórmula decente para traer personajes populares de otras entregas e integrarlos en la historia.

El juego me ha parecido fácil. La batalla final la he terminado en apenas 4 turnos. En parte culpa mía por no haber puesto el modo difícil y además porque he hecho todas las misiones opcionales por lo que mis personajes estaban bien entrenados.

Para "casarme" elegí a Chloe porque ha sido la unidad que más victorias me ha dado. Voladora y le añadí más rango de movimientos mediante items. En muchos mapas era capaz de ir volando directamente a por el jefe y vencerlo de un par de golpes.

En cada entrega de la saga el combate es más complicado. Me es imposible planear estrategias a largo plazo porque hay tantos modificadores al poder de los personajes que es muy complicado estimar el resultado de una batalla entre 2 personajes sin ponerlos uno delante del otro. Antaño el juego se basaba principalmente en el triángulo espada-hacha-lanza pero la cosa se les ha ido un poco de las manos con fusiones, afinidades, poderes heredados, etc. Al menos no hay que tener en cuenta hacia qué dirección está mirando cada personaje como en Triangle Strategy.

La base de este juego (el Somniel) está un poco desaprovechado por ejemplo el minijuego de pescar y el cuidado de la mascota son muy pobres.

A pesar de mis "quejas" me ha parecido un juegazo y lo recomiendo a quien le gusten los juegos de estrategia por turnos.
