Decrapifying (mostly) an Amazon Fire 8 HD Kids tablet via Linux

I'm not claiming it's a perfect solution, but here's what I did to remove, or at least hide away, enough of the Amazon bloatware to make a cheap tablet more suitable for my friend's children.

I #unlocked my old #Amazon #FireHD 8 #tablet (2017, 7th generation) and installed #LineageOS 12.1 (based on #Android 5.1). It's an old device and old Android version, slow compared to current devices, yet LineageOS is so much faster than #FireOS. With Fire OS the device was barely usable.
