found a #firewire 400 cable, so now i can charge up my ol' #iPod. it's a rev A but i replaced the battery in 2008. i am stunned the microdrive works.

We have the technology to make a #usbc to #ipod 30pin connector that does #firewire over USB-C *and* provides 9V power. Just sayin'

On Tom's Hardware, I read that #Apple being forced in Europe to have USB-C #iPhone devices, means I get to toss these special iPhone charge cables when I get a new iPhone in the #USA.

YAY!

Having both #Firewire (for Apple) and #usbc (for literally all other devices) is at best foolish and certainly wasteful. If Apple wanted to keep Firewire, they should have open-sourced it to make a de facto standard.

I'm grateful Europe had the sense to force Apple to standardize. Less is more, buckos.

One is almost 30" the other amost 6'.

The Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire adapter is a rather impressive piece of engineering. Inside the end-connector is a PCIe x1 interface card, with all signals passed on tiny individual cables.

It's pretty amazing to see the teardown.

@norberteder @juergenlibertus ok, habe mir weniger um das Format als um die Hardware Gedanken gemacht. Halten meine Festplatten so lange? Ich weiß es nicht. Und ich habe jetzt schon Platten im Schrank liegen, für die ich keinen Anschluss mehr am iMac habe #Firewire . Wer weiß ob in 20 Jahren USB 3.1 überhaupt noch anschließbar sein wird geschweige denn die Platte dann noch anspringt…
