@heuser I agree with you that he didn't necessarily need to allow this (fossil fuel dependency need not be powered by U.S. fossil fuels), so I this as a blemish on his record, though I also agree with @RememberUsAlways that there's only one viable major party for climate progress in the US currently, and that's going to continue to be the case at least until we switch enough places away from #FirstPastThePost election systems to #RankedChoiceVoting (a.k.a. #InstantRunoffVoting).
I think it's less useful to see it as a "sin" than to just move onto the next battle, whether it be lawsuits against the project or otherwise.

We’re in agreement (phew). I still dislike the anti-Liberal hashtag because for many Canadians (not me and I gather, not you!), the choice is binary. So to be against Libs means to vote for PeePee. I’m about to go off-topic (welcome to my world) but I think the big fight is against #FirstPastThePost — forget railways, it’s a new voting system we need!
> They will deploy every dirty trick, scrape the bottom of every barrel, and appeal to the lowest possible common denominators, to stay in power.
That's the nature of the #FirstPastThePost system. Winning is everything, the Party comes before all else.

But in 2017 #policyMakers ditched the Preferences system because it elected one #workingClass person into the senate in 2015, a #carEnthusiast named #RickyMuir. The professional managerial class went positively psychotic, whipping #middleClass #aussies into a frenzy, "How could this be!?", was the verbal diarrhea spewing from the waterCooler.
So called #Greens and…(2/3)

BTW in #Australia we don't have a #HouseOfUnelectedLords. We have a senate that is voted on by the people, and yes, the #election method for this #upperHouse is #ProportionalRepresentation rather than #FirstPastThePost.
#FirstPastThePost is used for our #lowerHouse elections, the same way your Lower House #elections operate, as far as we understand.

@schestowitz
What #firstPastThePost looks like. In #Australia we have a #Senate also (aka #UpperHouse) elected based on #ProportionalRepresentation.
Do the #UK not have a Senate?!
The problem in Australia is that there are too many tiers of govt: Local, State and Federal. We don't need the State govt. We can end that legacy govt while (almost) doubling the number of Local and Federal reps.
It'd be a boon for #democracy - we'd see more diverse voices in 2 tiers rather than less diversity in 3.
