On my #FirstDayHike, I did something a little different. I took a picture looking toward Mound Cemetery from Bunker Hill and Bunker Hill from Mound Cemetery.
It's a little less than five miles between these points. #DouglasCounty #Kansas

Headed out to Sachuest Point NWR for a first day hike today with the fam'. Very busy (sunny, 55Β°F days in January will do that), but a Northern Harrier was out patrolling, the usual complement of deer were roaming, and it was worth sticking around for sunset.

I really enjoyed the unseasonably warm #FirstDayHike weather. Blizzard conditions last week at this time. #Dune and #swale topography, lots of friendly hikers. My companion, Pippa #DogsOfMastodon

Just came back from my #FirstDayHike for 2023. Hiked 6.8KM along the #GrandRiver in #Waterloo this time.
What a difference a week makes! Snow is all gone!
The #Birds were quiet but we did spot the odd one out there along with some other critters:
Blue Jays
Chickadees
Sparrows
Crows
Red Bellied Woodpeckers
Mallards
Canada Geese (so many flying over!!)
Ring-billed gulls
Starlings
Red, black & grey squirrels
The #beavers have certainly been busy though!
