(I am a veterinarian, but it is not an automatic DVM, it is a separate postgraduate research doctorate, like a PhD).
There was a birdsite pile-on on female academics daring to use their titles, which led to the hashtag #immodestwomen & I have used mine since then. #academicmastodon

Usually I’ve been surrounded by people doing nothing to react so I’ll instinctively intervene. It shocks people because normally my appearance presents as pretty conservative

As #modelMinority #firstGen we’ve been taught since small children to blend in..

As a first gen in a lot of ways, I've realized that social media has opened a lot of opportunities for first generation researchers to be able to advance themselves as they're looking forward. So if you have the opportunity to, include some people online, you'll never know what happens.

Helping the best I can, but do I believe that they have a chance to get it? Not really...
Will the reviewer believe that you can find a future leader at UoD? Probably not...
The maintenance support will probably go to someone from a fancy uni who don't have to work as much to support themselves, but can write a little better...

In the Canadian context, I feel lucky that I am able to be a #FirstGen university graduate. I stepped through as the social opportunity window opened, just before the economic window closed.
