Thanks to #FIRSTRobotics team #1073, I got to try my hand at a swerve drive bot. They shared their code base at https://github.com/FRCTeam1073-TheForceTeam/SwerveDriveBase

Still iffy on if we'll be comfortable enough to add it into our competition bot this year, but we'll see.

Day 1 of the #NH #FIRSTRobotics mentors conference completed. Spent most of the day getting an early peek at the new #xrp platform. A very slick piece of kit and supporting tools. It feels like you're coding for the hundred pound and thousands of dollars robot but in actuality it's a tiny robot that's just $65.

This'll be great for low cost and quick experimentation for students.

Some upsides to the impending layoff exit date include an increased interest in dedicating time to my hobbies and the following funemployment time allows for easy schedules to make it to conferences like the #NH #FIRSTRobotics coaches workshop.

As for hobbies, I'm upping my home automation game. Added some camera image analysis and push notifications, some convenience features like "when the kids leave the house, shut the lights off in their room".

Fantastic work by the kids on #frc461 at the 2023 #FIRSTRobotics World Championship in Houston, TX! It was amazing watching this team play their hearts out and see success doing it.

It’s weird to feel FOMO over missing the district champs of the #FirstRobotics season. On the one hand, it’s a lot of work, stress and pain. On the other I get to chill at home with ‘Hea, sleep in, and spend the first weekend in 3 weeks doing nothing. It still feels like I should be there XD

#FirstRobotics season is over for me! 3 events done with 2 of those being directly after TFF. Now time to rest and work on other projects!

Another #FirstRobotics event in the books! Went so much smoother than week 1 of course. However I learned an incredibly important lesson: it’s NOT A GOOD IDEA to go direct from a fur con into an event, I’ll be trying to maintain a week buffer next year. Now to rest, recuperate, and do it ALL again Wednesday.

An interesting first day back at work post con 🤣
- a coworker accepted a position in another department so I’ll (finally) have my own truck and possibly a better cube.
- I got enough work done today to feel good about taking a half day and the rest of the week off for the #FirstRobotics event this weekend

All and all, a solid day of work XD
