A Collette's Pygmy Halfbeak (Dermogenys collettei) spotted in the stream at Windsor Nature Park, Singapore, on 8 March 2023. A small fish that, like the very common Stripe-nosed halfbeak seen in mangroves, have a long lower jaw and a very short upper one.

A Stripe-nosed Halfbeak (Zenarchopterus buffonis) spotted at Pasir Ris Park, Singapore, on 26 Feb 2023. A common fish often seen in mangrove areas.
It is a small fish (20 cm long) with a very long lower jaw that ends with a white spot at the tip. The upper jaw is quite short and ends just after the eyes. It feeds on food on the water surface and is usually found seen together in groups.

Last week, scientists filmed a fish swimming at a depth of more than 8km (27,000ft), setting a new record for the deepest ever fish documented by humans.
