Started building a server for my #FlameEngine game a few weeks ago, started with just using Shelf and Postgres because I didn't think I would need any "real-time" websockets etc. Seems like I do though, so today I'm checking out @supabase!
In the first week of #17DaysOfFlutter @KhanhNwin and @ericwindmill will use #FlameEngine to build a game, very excited to see what they come up with! πππ₯
Hey #Flutter and #FlameEngine friends. How hard would it be to have a Minecraft clone written in Flutter ? Kind of like what Minetest does. And could it run on phones ? Actually, maybe it has already been done ?
Added a link directly to the @zapp_run Flame template in #FlameEngine's issue template now, hoping more people will share minimal reproducible examples through there since it is so extremely much simpler for us as maintainers when you can just click a link to run the repro! π
And there you have it ! Dynamic lighting with a fragment shader, using #Fluter (master channel) and #FlameEngine. No more moirΓ© effect ! This has 101 walls, no optimisation whatsoever to not compute hidden walls, and still it runs a 60-ish FPS on Ubuntu. The map in one single PNG file, the walls were drawn in InkScape and saved as a SVG file. My - still very messy - code is at https://github.com/ymauray/rpgmap
I tiped my toes in the dark waters of the GLSL shaders. It turns out it's not that dark after all. I even have something working to replace my raycasted dynamic lighting engine. #Flutter #FlameEngine
So.. let's see how Mastodon works... I've been playing with #Flutter and the #FlameEngine to create this dynamic lighting thingy. Now with doors that can be opened and closed. FPS took a hit, but I have ideas to make it a bit faster.
How cool is this?! π
Can't wait for all the new juicy shader stuff to be merged into stable (this is currently on the master channel).

Why did I decide to learn something new? It has taken me more hours than I can spare to setup a #Flutter app with a #FlameEngine and make the UI rotate and change orientation with the phones orientation while also making sure the game widget doesn't rotate with the phone...
But I did it, it works π
Except, I started doing it so long ago that I can't remember why I thought that was going to be important π

For this release I think the two new bridge packages flame_lottie and flame_isolate are the most interesting additions. Check them out! π₯
