I know it’s a long shot #fediverse but does anyone have a (n ideally #opensource and #selfhosted) #spacedrepetition or #flashcard app / #Anki alternative they recommend? Currently using AnkiApp on iOS and it’s not bad, but I’d like a self hosted web app that lets me get more granular data about, eg, failed cards, keep it all in-house, not worry about privacy policies, etc.

I've tried this app. It's a flashcard app with so many features. It's my go-to flashcard app. I prefer Memorion to Anki. I hope this app last longer and the developer of this app always happy and healthy because they make an amazing app that I've never seen before :blobcatheart:.

Are you aware of decks (i.e. collections) of digital flash cards which are free (like in #floss) to use?

I am thinking of prototyping a web app and look for some typical and proven content.

@ajlewis2 the notes can be in any folder, both notereview and for flashcards. U just need to add the tag U want, either for reviewing a whole note (#notereview) or if U have a flashcard (#flashcard). When you make flashcards you need to add some more information in the note itself, like how I showed with the double equal signs. There is information about that in the plugin settings. I should have shown more about how to setup the flashcards maybe, but the video was more focused on note review.

My #ClassicalArabic class won't formally start for another couple weeks Insha Allah. But the prep materials I reviewed last night reminded me that I need a good workflow to be able to write out answers for my lessons.

One nice little #FlashCard type of exercise: I have one of those magic "top 500 words in the Quran" lists. To help me memorize those words, I can use the Lexilogos keyboard to type individual letters and diacriticals, and the resulting words are displayed on screen. Then I can plug those words into Quran.com and do a search... and the ayat containing the word come up.

And guess what, my input does not have to exactly match the way the words are written in Quran.com to find a correct match in terms of meaning. The diacriticals tend to be the variants: the sukoon can be written in a different style, for example.

My current practice is to read target language books and news online, and when I see a sentence that is unfamiliar copy-paste it into an #Anki #flashcard with a translation. Anki (very old school flashcard freeware, not just for #language) manages spaced-learning sessions and I flip through it daily.

The thing i like about Anki is it tells me when to stop. "You're done for the day!" is very satisfying.
