I'm thinking about how, when we look at groups making claims, we see them scrambling to put forward evidence, to find new ways to explain that evidence, to talk about why they believe the thing rather than just saying they believe it. If we look at #FlatEarthers, for example, they are constantly putting out diagrams and websites and explanations, trying to convince us with facts and reason that the earth is flat.

That's a good faith belief.

Happy summer solstice — or winter solstice in the southern hemisphere. Today got me wondering how #flatearthers explain the southern hemisphere having opposite seasons. Then I saw that some flat earthers think Australia doesn’t exist (always Australia — is that the only place that exists down there?) and Australians actually live on a reservation in the US (still doesn’t explain opposite seasons).

So do flat earthers in the southern hemisphere think the northern hemisphere doesn’t exist, and all 7 billion of us live on a reservation in the Outback? I couldn’t find anything about that.

She’s not joking. Neither was Shaquille O’Neil when he said it on air, and later tried to say he was joking. He clearly was not.

I suspect MANY of the #MAGA cult are closet #FlatEarthers . Some people simply cannot accept what a logical brain knows must be true, but is not seen with their eyes. They HAVE to see it for themselves to believe it. No amount of indirect but conclusive evidence will convince them. You just get into #WhackAMole.

Is it a frank acceptance that on no moral, ethical or science basis can they substantiate their vile prejudices? Or, is it much more pragmatic, being simply that they don't have any spare time left atm coz they're so frantically busy picketing women's health facilities, burning books, & tying #transwomen to the railway tracks? 🤷‍♀️
