Since my replies are full of people missing the point (it's like a two-second meme is not nuanced!):

Of course I don't think #Flatpak, #Flathub, #FreeDesktop, etc. are evil. 😂

But we should be happy to use #SteamDeck as a way to get the cool stuff we're working on into the hands of millions of new folks. And we should be happy to use it as an example when talking to app developers we want to support #Linux.

Perhaps this is an alternative interpretation.

I'll keep saying it, because it keeps coming up. If you're working in the FreeDesktop, Linux, or Flatpak spaces, you *need* to understand this, even if you don't personally care about gaming or Steam Deck.

@adhami As a person who has contributed quite a lot on the design side of this project, I'm extremely pleased to see how successfully it has turned out, approaching 30 thousand installs on #Flathub after being out for just a couple of months. I think this illustrates an important development in the #FOSS space: There is a growing demand for apps that don't necessarily do entirely new and innovative things, but instead excel on performing already common tasks in an extremely streamlined fashion.

What is it with #flatpak and their downloads being so crappy? I always have to run flatpak update 2-3 times before all the stuff downloads because flatpak is just so buggy! Or is it just that #flathub is running off of a kartoffel that has issues with files larger than 100 megs

Not sure if I'm a fan of these scary warning messages that recently made their way to #flathub.

"Unsafe" feels like a very vague word that means different things to different people. It can be a shorthand for malware, instability, etc. Not necessarily an app getting access to my Downloads folder.

If I were a new user to #flatpak seeing Firefox marked as "potentially unsafe"...it would give me pause.
