Checking out J.H. Barlow & Co at no.7 Vere St, I chanced on this article by JHB’s 4 x great-grandson [https://bityl.co/Fq6P]. I was luckier than JHB; his descendant says “JHB seems not to have traded very successfully. He appears frequently in the #LondonGazette. In 1804 he is in the #FleetPrison & in 1818 in the #KingsBenchPrison.”
