I'm a big fan of John Crowley's writing (eg "Little, Big", "Engine Summer", the "Aegypt" series) - but I'm not enjoying his latest "Flint and Mirror" as much as I had hoped.
The writing seems impersonal - it's the history around the characters, not the story of the characters at a point in history.
