@JohannessNilsson @linux @torvalds @rasteri I guess it's not entirely impossible to support that via #Floppy after all...
No promises, but Linux 6.5 did optimize code quite a lot...

Tho to get sound and filesystem support it would likely still need some installation image and if you can sent me a list of the components inside, I could try to make a system that supports those components out of the box so you could flash it onto a CF/[microSD/DOM/SSD/... to boot from.
Wow, @linux does actually improve efficiency over time...
I just compiled a minimal kernel 6.5 for OS/1337 targeting #i486 instead of #i686 and the resulting binary is even 10kB smaller than the one for 6.4.12...
For real: That's awesome cuz it allows me to make the #Floppy version for #486SX a reality and still have #Toybox & #dropbear as #SSH client in it...
Cudos to @torvalds and the maintainers for that:
They really did cleanup the codebase and made it #smol|ler!
#smol #ssh #dropbear #toybox #486SX #floppy #i686 #i486
@ncommander OFC, that is a concern if RAM is a limiting factor...
And I do know that most distros like @ubuntu will zse shared libraries as they have way more programs needing them at the same time, so I don't think that's bad on their part.
Whereas in my case of OS/1337 the #Floppy version (1440kB) literally only contains #Linux as Kernel, #toybox as Userland and #Dropbear as SSH-Client and nothing else.
It's basically turning a machine into a "SSH-Terminal" and that's it.
#dropbear #toybox #Linux #floppy
So for those asking, the #1440kB #Floppy Version of OS/1337 will be a better #Floppinux with #Ethernet & #Network support and packing in #Dropbear as #SSH client.
So you could at the very least use it as a #SSH #Terminal #distro...
Sadly this means it will require at least an #i686 and won't run on an #i486 anymore as a lot of memory was eaten up by #486SX woraround code in the kernel...

YOS!
#Linux 6.4.12 (with networking support!) + #toybox 0.8.10 in 980k using #musl-cross-i686
This is awesome...
Seems like I can fit #dropbear as #SSH client on the 3,5" #1440kB #Floppy as well...
I guess it would've been possible to make #Floppinux for a #720k #Floppy as well... ?

The good thing about AMIGA IPF disk images... you can actually convert them back to regular ADFs and, as long as there is no copy protection, they will work just fine.
HxCFloppyEmulator is really useful here for batch conversions, by the way!

One more Floppy Cover design. This time it's for Triad! Datapumpin´ like its 1986

It's so much fun sorting through a stack of really, really old computer disks.. PC, C64 or AMIGA... and actually getting games and programs to work. To turn these mysterious, dusty things back into colorful images and animations on a screen. Feels amazing!
Yes, I guess I am one of the "old farts", who just keeps using ancient stuff...
