My favorite #flossweekly episodes so far:
- 744: Lawyer who fought music copyright talks about language learning models.
- 741: F-Droid, the FLOSS Android app repo.
- 735: FLOSS in developing countries.
- 721: Purism update.
- 688: Matrix.org, decentralized chat.
- 632: The author of Bash.
I tried listening to #flossweekly 734 (โOrganic Mapsโ) but what little I understood through the first 30 minutes of thickly accented speech of the maintainer Roman Tsisyk was that they'd made an offline Open Street Maps app. Anything more detailed and I'd have to listen two or three more times at 0.5x speed of the entire 60 minute episode which I don't have time for.
I've been thinking a lot over the last few days about this #FLOSSWeekly #podcast (https://twit.tv/shows/floss-weekly/episodes/664) about @tailscale #Tailscale, in which the CEO, Avery Pennarun, discusses his views on #FOSS. The relevant portion starts at 44:00, and resonates with me a lot in the context of what motivates me (it's *rarely* money; I acknowledge I currently have privilege around this).
Avery elaborates on his blog: https://apenwarr.ca/log/20211229
Relevant transcribed (as best I can) excerpts follow.

Now I'm imagining a cocktail napkin prototype #PaulBaran may have drawn.
He's having some drinks after work w/one of his co-workers...
"Hey, check this out..."
[draws two squares with arrows pointing at each other]
"That."
"Two squares w/arrows? I mean, they're good squares, I'll give you that, bu-"
"No. The Internet."
"What!?"
"Yes."
"OK, let's call a taxi & get you home."
Great episode of #FLOSSWeekly on #twit about centralized v. decentralized platforms, massive.wiki and more. Thanks @dsearls , @methoddan and @peterkaminski

I was listening to the newest episode of #flossweekly yesterday. First off, it was nice to have @leo on again, but most importantly the ad for #fastmail got me to finally sign up. So far I love it. It was really easy to migrate over from #Outlook email. I even set up a separate profile for my husband. I have been meaning to migrate to an email service that isn't free to have better privacy for a while, but had never gotten around to doing it.

Catching up listening to interesting podcasts on my way to work.
Today's fascinating topic resulting in my half hour drive, with empty roads at this time of year, being way too short.

~ 00:25:32 "You realise who writes the most bugs? The core developers!"
"The people you need to worry the most are your core developers. You need to put processes in place to catch everybody -- all the Bugs. [...] If they gonna catch the bugs of the core developers they catch the bugs that are submitted by every developer. [...] Do that!!"

#FLOSSweekly this week Doc Searls and @methoddan were talking about MNM Not Mail email replacement:
https://twit.tv/shows/floss-weekly/episodes/623
And I just wondered: what does it have that #XMPP doesn't?
That said, I would love to see the client he's working on implemented for XMPP. See:

> #SoftwareHeritage is an extraordinary, yet necessary effort to save all the world's #software in all its versions and generations for all time. This effort is to help make historical #SourceCode accessible to everyone, but this initiative does come with many challenges. Naturally, #SoftwareHeritage is started with #OpenSource code and principles. #DocSearls and #SimonPhipps talk in much length and depth on all of it, with founder & #CEO #RobertoDiCosmo.
