Blanket bogs is are being destroyed ,faster and more irrevocably than rainforests since 2000 wind farms, have become the major destroyer of peatlands. Wind farms involve excavation of the peat for the construction of concrete bases, roads and bridges. each turbine base displaces 5,000 tons of peat There is no cap on the number of turbines and planning approval for further developments continues

the utmost north of the UK has the UKs most unique and enviromentally important habitat the worlds largest intact (so far) expanse of blanket bog ,
But it needs protecting until it has the protection of Unesco ,please dont assume if you see images of Caithness and Sutherland that its deforested ,or over grazed ,blanket bogs are meant to be tree less and they are not barren they are rich in tiny species

@queenofpeat yes quite ,its great to see this post I live on the edge of the "Flow Country " I used to live right in the middle of it in Caithness ,people are incredibly dismissive of wetlands anbd peat lands ,they dont care about protecting them because they cant see any trees or assume they are barren ,when they are beautiful diverse ecosystems ,rich in wildlife and every bit as important as forests even if they dont seem as pretty to people. theflowcountry.org.uk/

The flows are an amazing landscape .. it's very hard to describe the feeling of their vast expanse .. I remember seeing a twister travel across them one autumn
