Work in progress (eventually free or open source): a flash card app written with #Rust and #FLTK.
My main wish was being able to easily switch between files with cards, written in Markdown.
Card management is more manual than e.g. Anki which I think I prefer (but it was also easier to implement 😀).
What desktop programming platform do you use?
Sharing is very appreciated.
#programming #qt #gtk #lazarus #gambas #java #wxwidgets #fltk #javascript #freesoftware #opensource
#OpenSource #FreeSoftware #JavaScript #fltk #wxwidgets #Java #gambas #lazarus #GTK #qt #programming
None of this suggests I would want to do what #system76 says it wants to do. I remain deeply skeptical of that. Rather I see specific stand-alone desktop applications and utilities that might be better suited to #rust which could work well with simple gui toolkits like #FLTK.
I finally found a place I do like #rust for. Desktop tools and ui's. The disadvantages of being a cargo cult are not as strong since I don't really have to package things for many platforms for desktop apps, I can generate binary packages if I really need to using cargo extensions, and I could deploy those kinds of things just with cargo. The #fltk bindings are really very clean and avoid most of the crazy and stupid rustisms in your code that reduce clarity and readability.
